Spirit of Philanthropy Award Recognizes Roggensack’s Commitment to Community

rogensack_sop_2014The Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin honored Rod Roggensack with its 2014 Spirit of Philanthropy Award.  Presented at the annual meeting, the award recognizes volunteers who lead and live philanthropic lives.  Recipients are known to have given generously and consistently of their time, talent and resources to make good things happen in their communities and to encourage others to do likewise.

Folks in Lancaster know of Rod’s enthusiasm for and dedication to building an endowment for the community – the Lancaster Community Fund – that will do good, forever, for Lancaster.

Rod served on the Lancaster Community Fund advisory board from 2003 through 2007, providing leadership as vice chair and then as chair.  During that time, Rod learned about the Transfer of Wealth Study, completed in 2001-2002 by the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship’s Rural Policy Research Institute.  Using that study, he created informative advertisements, published quarterly in the Grant Herald Independent that addressed estate planning and giving back to community.  Rod shared his enthusiasm and expertise as a member of the board of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, from 2006 to 2009.

Rod’s enthusiasm for philanthropy continues to burn hot and bright.  The Lancaster Community Fund advisory board has deemed Rod as the ‘official’ community liaison.  What does that mean?  Rod is a regular attendee at nearly all LCF board meetings.  He is the fund’s historian, record keeper, orientation specialist, scheduler, mailing list guru, and evangelist.  There is no doubt that he has shared the story of the Community Fund and the good that is can accomplish with lots of folks throughout not only Lancaster but also our region.  There is also no doubt that he has influenced many to give back to their community of choice.

Carson Alcorn, one of the original Lancaster Community Fund board members, recruited Rod to join the advisory board.  Carson recounted that when Rod “caught the bug,” he became, and continues to be, one of the region’s greatest cheerleaders for philanthropy, particularly to community.  The Lancaster community is most assuredly a beneficiary of Rod’s dedication and commitment.

The Lancaster Community Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc., is a tax-exempt public charity.  The LCF provides a means for individuals, organizations and businesses to support their unique charitable community interests – For Good. For Ever. For Lancaster.
