This week the PHS Scholarship Fund advisory board received word that the Shopping News and Woodward Printing Services, located in the Platteville Industry Park, has made a 5-year commitment of $1000 a year to fund scholarships for students graduating from Platteville High School.

PHS Scholarship Fund advisory board member Gene Weber noted, “The Shopping News and Woodward Printing Services join a group of Platteville businesses that have shown their commitment to assisting our youth in pursuing their dreams of furthering their education after high school. These businesses know that costs are increasing and that these students can no longer earn enough during their summer and holiday breaks to fund their education. They also have seen the information about the growing debt load for students and their families. These businesses, collectively, are challenging others to match their contributions.

The Shopping News and Woodward Printing Services have been advocates for youth for decades. In speaking of this 5-year, $1000 per year commitment to the PHS Scholarship Fund, Shopping News general manager Brian Stuart noted, “On behalf of all of our employee owners we are very happy to be able to make these ongoing contributions in the Platteville community, a place where many of us live as well as work.”

The PHS Scholarship Fund’s mission is to expand access to post-secondary education for the students of the Platteville School District. The Fund fulfills this mission primarily be providing scholarships. Since its establishment in 2010, the Fund has awarded scholarships to 57 students with a total value of $55,050. The Fund board has sent a fund-raising goal of $50,000 to be given as scholarships to the PHS Class of 2013.

The PHS Scholarship Fund is affiliated with the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) public charity.
