Shelley Kubly Muranyi and Mike Muranyi of Monroe are the recipients of a 2013 Spirit of Philanthropy Award given by the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.

The Muranyis were recognized for their leadership in a variety of philanthropic activities in Monroe and Green County.  The award was presented at the Community Foundation’s annual meeting held October 16 at the Monroe Arts Center.

“Shelley and Mike do not only give of their treasure,” said Linda Gebhardt, donor services representative for the Community Foundation.  “They can be seen volunteering their time and sharing their talents and passion with numerous causes.”

Among the area causes that the Muranyis have supported are the new Green County Humane Society Endowment Fund, the Monroe Arts Center capital campaign and the Green County EMS capital campaign.

In 2012, Shelley and her sisters established the Forrest & Mildred Kubly Fund in honor of their parents.  The fund is an endowment for the preservation and enhancement of Downtown Monroe.  For four years, Shelley has been a leading supporter of the Green County Alzheimer’s Walk, a benefit for the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance serving South Central Wisconsin.  She has served two terms on the advisory board for the Monroe Fund and currently serves on the board of the Monroe Clinic Foundation.

Mike Muranyi is president of the Mike Muranyi Junior Golf Foundation.  The Foundation provides young people, ages 8 to 18, the opportunity to learn and play golf at Monroe Country Club.  This year 45 children were in the program.  The Foundation also awards two scholarships to Monroe High School graduating seniors.

The Community Foundation’s Spirit of Philanthropy Award recognizes Foundation volunteers who lead and live philanthropic lives.  Recipients are honored for giving consistently and generously of their time and resources, for making things happen in their communities, and for encouraging others to do likewise.

One award is given for each of the Community Foundation’s three regions:  Rock/Walworth counties, Green/Lafayette counties, and Southwest Wisconsin.
