Scholarships Presented in Belmont

The Belmont Excellence in Education and Scholarship Endowment Funds advisory board presented four scholarships at the recent Senior Awards Night held at Belmont High School.

Jeff Mester joined his grandparents, Hubie and Joyce Mester, to present the 2nd annual Hubert & Joyce Mester Family Endowed Scholarship in Memory of Wayne Mester.  The Mesters established this endowment in 2014; the scholarship is awarded to a Belmont High School students who will pursue post-secondary education in agriculture.  The 2016 recipient, Jonathon Bahr, will attend UW-Platteville in the fall with the goal of earning a degree in agribusiness and pursuing employment in an ag-related enterprise.

MJ Dachelet, Belmont School Funds advisory board member, presented three scholarships. Allison Klein earned the Harold Vickers Memorial Scholarship. Mr. Vickers was a local farmer who made Belmont his home for nearly 20 years.  He was active with the United Methodist Church, Belmont Lions, and the Belmont School Fair.  Allison will study human biology at UW-Green Bay with the goal of entering medical school.

Raine Voigts was awarded both the Frederick and Helen Rehmstedt Memorial Scholarship and the Belmont School Funds Scholarship. The Rehmstedts were philanthropists to schools throughout southwestern Wisconsin and northern Illinois providing monies for scholarships and for teacher initiated projects and facilities. The Belmont School Funds Scholarship was made possible by donations from community members and proceeds from a fun run held in conjunction with the 2015 Belmont School Fair. Raine will pursue a degree in elementary education at UW-Platteville.

Established in 2013, the Belmont Excellence in Education and Scholarship Endowment Funds are components of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc., a tax-exempt Community charity.
