Scholarship Offered to Single Mothers

Single mothers attending, or planning to attend, Blackhawk Technical College (BTC) are invited to apply for BTC’s Women With a Vision Scholarship.

The scholarship is offered to Rock County single mothers with demonstrated financial need.  Applicants must have completed 12 credits of post-secondary education and be pursuing one of the following programs:

  • Web analyst/programmer
  • Fire science
  • Medical lab technician
  • Physical therapy assistant
  • Radiography
  • Health science associate degree
  • Diagnostic medical sonography & vascular
  • Nursing
  • Industrial engineering technician
  • Criminal justice-law enforcement academy
  • Welding
  • Licensed practical nursing
  • CNC technician
  • Pharmacy technician

The BTC Women with a Vision Scholarship covers all tuition and fees for a year.  In addition, the scholarship entitles the recipient to be considered for additional support for such things as books, supplies, child care, transportation, mentoring, and tutoring, depending on her needs.  The scholarship is renewable.

The Women with a Vision Scholarship program was initiated in 2012 by the Zonta Club of Janesville.  Its mission is to help move single mothers into family-sustaining jobs.  The program is co-sponsored by Zonta, the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin’s Carol & Norman Aulabaugh Scholarship Fund and the Blackhawk Technical College Foundation.

The BTC Women with a Vision Scholarship guidelines and application are available on the website of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, and Blackhawk Technical College.  The deadline for applications is May 30.
