PHS Scholarship Fund Announces 3rd Annual “It Takes A Village” Event

Here is just one of the amazing auction items up for bid during the live It Takes A Village auction: the original Ed’s Café Recipe Box (flour dust included). For those who are missing the delicious food from this iconic Platteville restaurant, wait no more! For the high bid you can be the proud new owner and impress all your friends with these great recipes.

It was in 2014 when the PHS Scholarship Fund advisory board recruited a group of concerned PHS parents and friends to organize an event to raise monies for PHS graduates.  The goal was not only to generate dollars, but to have fun!

Saturday, February 25, 2017 will mark the 3rd anniversary of the “It Takes A Village” dinner and auction.  This year’s theme:  Aloha Hillmen!  That means attendees are encouraged to dress the Hawaiian way – donning colorful shirts/skirts/shorts/trousers and flip flops!

Sheri Stewart, chair of the event, noted: “Our group has been meeting since last summer.  Over the past few weeks we have been concentrating on acquiring auction items.  You won’t believe the incredible donations we’ve received.  In addition to experiential packages that include items like “A Day on a Pontoon Boat on the Mississippi” and “A Celebrity Chef Dinner”, we have some absolutely one-of-a-kind items including the original recipe box (complete with recipes and flour dust) from Ed’s Café.  This is truly an event that you don’t want to miss.”

Tickets are on sale at the Driftless Market, TRICOR Insurance, and the office at 190 Market St.  Individual tickets may be purchased for $25 each.  Reserved tables for 8 persons are available $250.

Sheila Kelley, PHS Scholarship Fund chair, commented: “This is a must-go-to event for those who care about helping graduates of Platteville High School to pursue their post-secondary education plans.  By supporting this event and the PHS Scholarship Fund, we are able to offer more and larger scholarships to our graduates.  The PHS Fund awarded its 1st 5 – $1000 scholarships in 2010.  Last year nearly $131,000 was awarded to 70 students including $16,000 from the 2016 “It Takes A Village” event.”

The February 25, 2017 Aloha Hillmen – It Takes A Village – Dinner and Auction will be held in the Velzy Commons, Ullsvik Hall on the UW-Platteville campus.  Tickets are NOT available at the door.  Rather, tickets must be purchased by Friday, February 17, 2017.  Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. and the auction (both a silent and a live auction) at 7 p.m.
