PHS Cross Country Team Donates 100% of Dance Proceeds for PHS Scholarships

PHS Cross Country Team Donates Proceeds of ‘Dance’ to PHS Scholarship Fund. Left to right: High School Principal Tim Engh, along with cross country team members Cori Kettler and Julia Kasper and Coach Rob Serres, present a $1500 check to PHS Scholarship Fund advisory board members Valerie Gill-Mast and Angie Wright.

The Platteville High School Cross Country Teams are leading by example. These students, coached by Rob Serres, truly understand the meaning of philanthropy – promoting the welfare of others by generously giving of themselves.
When the PHS Scholarship Fund advisory board looked for a partner for its first-ever “Dancing with the Stars” event, it was members of the PHS Cross Country Team that stepped up. The Team was truly more than a partner assuming the role of leader in recruiting the dancers, choreographing and teaching the dance, and organizing the event promotion.

When we recognize philanthropists, we often speak of giving freely of time, talent, and resources. Most certainly many on the team gave freely of time and talent. Those in attendance for the high school basketball games on December 15 most certainly saw the team’s commitment to ‘doing it right’ with lively music, delightful costumes, and enthusiastic dancers. In addition, those in attendance showed their appreciation with monetary donations, expecting the Team to donate one-half of the evening’s proceeds for scholarships.

Is it a surprise that this Team did more than expected donating 100% of the evening’s donations for scholarships? Over time, we have seen our PHS Cross Country Team lead by example and do more than expected. Special thanks are due this group of students who worked on behalf of their fellow students and donated $1500 for scholarships for members of the PHS Class of 2018. Please thank them when you see them! And, better yet, follow their example! You have a chance to do just that at the upcoming, February 17, PHS Scholarship Fund Dinner and Auction.
