Mineral Point Community Fund Grants Available

It was in early 2016 (just 2 years ago) that a group of enthusiastic volunteers came together to work on building an endowment to fund projects in the community. That group (known as the Mineral Point Community Foundation), which includes Nancy Harker, Lisa Hay, Jim Kackley, Frank McGettigan, Kristin Mitchell, Lori Pittz, Nancy Schmit, Mike Wagner and Lowry White, has been active in spreading the word about the creation of the Mineral Point Community Endowment. Endowments are permanent funds whose assets are invested to generate income to be used for charitable purposes. The Mineral Point Community Endowment Fund is a pool of money that has been assembled from folks within and/or near-in-heart to our community who want to provide ongoing support FOR EVER, FOR MINERAL POINT.

Over the 2-year time period, the assets of the Mineral Point Community Endowment have grown to over $150,000. That growth has enabled the MP Community Foundation Board to announce its inaugural grant cycle.

Kristin Mitchell, board chair, noted, “The application is neither long nor rigorous. There is a tip sheet available online. Additionally, through our affiliation with the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, there are experts available via phone. You may also contact me or a board member with questions. Our local board will review the applications and make the grant awards. We are particularly interested in visible and lasting projects that benefit the Mineral Point community.”

Charitable non-profit organizations and/or local government entities serving the people of the Mineral Point area are eligible to apply for grants; requests from individuals are not eligible. Applications must be completed online and submitted online no later than 11:59 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018. Mailed, emailed or faxed copies of applications and/or incomplete or late applications will not be considered. To access the application, go to, choose grants available from the grants dropdown menu and scroll to Mineral Point Community Fund. Questions? Both CFSW donor services rep Barb Daus ([email protected]) and CFSW grants and scholarships manager Lannie Troon ([email protected]) are available to assist.
