The advisory board of the Milton Fund has awarded the City of Milton $10,000 towards a large-scale “welcome” sign, part of a new city marketing effort developed in the wake of the completed Highway 26 bypass project.  The new bypass, which opened in August, halted traffic through the city by directing travelers around Milton’s east side.  The sign project aims to draw them back in.

The grant is by far the largest single award in the Fund’s 14 years of grant making.

“With the challenges brought on by the newly completed Highway 26 bypass, the Advisory Board choose to respond to the ‘community need’ of directing people back to the heart of Milton,” said Lisa McCue, Milton Fund chair.  “We were presented a proposal for an illuminated digital information sign to be erected on the south side of Milton where the bypass begins.  The sign would announce local activities and other information that would entice by-passers to enjoy our wonderful community.”

The donation makes the Milton Fund the lead donor on the sign project.  The new sign is estimated to cost between $30,000 and $50,000.  The city hopes to have the sign installed in the spring of 2014.

In addition to McCue, the advisory board of the Milton Fund includes Kris Agnew, Bob Albrecht, Katie Arndt, Jason Cowley, Bob Cullen, Beth Drew, Betsy Lubke, and Theresa Rusch.

Since its founding in 1996, the Milton Fund has given back nearly $161,000 in grants to the community.  For further information on the Milton Fund, contact Jane Maldonis, donor services representative, (608)758-0883.
