Following the successful 2013 launch of the Hillsboro Excellence in Education and Scholarship funds, the funds’ advisory board has set new goals for 2014.  Those goals include attracting 75 new donors, securing one named family scholarship endowment, developing one special event or activity that promotes the funds, and educating area tax advisors, financial planners and attorneys about the funds.

Now the advisory board is actively engaged in promoting the funds to achieve those goals.   “We are sharing the news about these funds with as many people as possible,” reported Dan Ravenscroft, advisory board co-chair.  “Our area residents will receive an insert in the Sentry-Enterprise and the Outlook that offers information about the funds including a donation form.  From past participation and from the questions we regularly receive about these funds, we know that many will respond with a gift.”

Additionally, the advisory board has sent a letter and information packet to graduates who range from the classes of 1940 through 1978 notifying them of the funds and seeking their input.  According to  Andy Peterson,  the other advisory board co-chair, responses have been encouraging and have included not only donations but also many notes commenting on the timeliness and relevance of building this type of continuing support for the school district.

It was just one year ago that the advisory board was reporting regularly on the growing number of charter donors committed to establishing endowments for the perpetual benefit of the Hillsboro School and its students and staff.  The community responded with incredible support and generosity resulting in endowments, as of June 30, 2013, of more than $30,000 in the Hillsboro Endowed Scholarship Fund and of more than$20,000 in the Hillsboro Excellence in Education Fund.  Additionally, seven Class of 2013 Hillsboro seniors received scholarships totaling $4,500 at the May 2013 commencement, and one grant of $500 was awarded in support of the technology education program.
