The Crawford County Community Fund presented its 2016 grants at the December meeting of the Crawford County Board of Supervisors.  A reception, with the grant recipients, county board members, county staff, the Crawford County Community Fund Advisory Board, and other invited guests followed and included refreshments, locally grown and/or produced.

Sharon Murphy, chair of the Crawford County Community Fund advisory board, presented the awards.  In her remarks Dr. Murphy noted, “This is the 8th year that the Crawford County Community Fund has come before you to present our annual grants.  With today’s grants a total of just over $30,000 has been awarded since the Fund’s inception.  Think about it…the original challenge that we accepted in 2008 was a $25,000 gift which was matched by people within this county including you, the County Board.  Already – in 2016 – projects in our county have received more than the original challenge gift.  And, the best news…we will be able to continue to give grants because our fund is an endowment and over this 8-year period has grown to over $110,000!”

The 2016 grants include:

  • $1000 to the Mississippi Valley Conservancy to be used in the acquisition and development of the Kickapoo Indian Caverns near Wauzeka;
  • $1500 to the Prairie du Chien Memorial Library, in support of the “Ready, Set, Grow” campaign to double the size of the library;
  • $1500 to the Village of Ferryville Vision and Promotions Board in support of the re-development of Sugar Creek Park; and
  • $2000 to the Village of Gays Mills Stump Dodger Trail project to be used for signage.
