Darlington High School senior Chad Gollackson is the 2017 recipient of the Doug & Janice Steinback Family Scholarship.  Gollackson competed with students from high schools throughout southwest Wisconsin (Iowa, Grant, Crawford, Richland and Lafayette counties) to earn this award.

Doug and Janice Steinback established a perpetual scholarship, meaning that there will be a scholarship awarded annually, for ever.  In addition to hailing from southwest Wisconsin, applicants for the scholarship must have a high school cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), have demonstrated involvement in community and school activities, and be pursuing post-secondary education in the field of agriculture, life science, biology and/or chemistry.  Gollackson will attend UW-Platteville and pursue study in biology/chemistry with the goal of pursuing a graduate degree in the medical field.

The Steinbacks are well known agriculturists in the greater Platteville area having farmed west of Platteville for some 40 years.  Doug has been active with UW-Platteville, serving on the Pioneer Farm Advisory Board. The Steinbacks have been recognized for their outstanding work in agriculture by the Wisconsin Pork Producers as well as the Platteville Regional Chamber of Commerce.

In presenting the award Doug Steinback noted, “Our success came not only through our efforts but through support and involvement of others.  We are honored to give back, through this scholarship, to encourage the future for agriculture.  Through our involvement with local schools and programs we are well aware of Chad’s commitment to excellence both in his studies and in his extra-curricular involvements, particularly athletics.  It has been our pleasure to watch him on the basketball court and football and baseball fields. We’re in an excellent location to watch his progress as he pursues his studies at UW-Platteville.”

The Doug and Janice Steinback Family Endowed Scholarship was established through the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity.  For more information about the scholarship and/or about the Community Foundation contact Barb Daus, CFSW Donor Services Representative, at [email protected] or 608-778-3344.
