Darlington EIE

darlington-logoThe Darlington Excellence in Education (EIE) Fund was established in 2003 from a bequest of Dr. Lyle Olson. The Fund serves both public and private schools in the Darlington area. It aims to inspire teachers and students at all levels to accomplish their very best by encouraging and promoting creative and innovative educational programs and recognizing and rewarding outstanding achievement.

Since its founding, the Darlington EIE Fund has given more than $84,193 back to area educational institutions.

Annual grant application deadline: October 15

Once per year the advisory board awards grants to the local school district for projects and/or programs that fall outside of the confines of the District’s operating budget. Grants are awarded at a ceremony in November.


Recent Grant Awards

In December, 2016, the fund awarded $7,605 for the following grants:

Darlington School District 

  • American Players Theatre performance
  • Craving chromebooks
  • Nutcracker Ballet for the third grade
  • Number the Stars performance for the sixth grade
  • Graphing calculators for the high school
  • Newbery Author visit for the elementary and middle schools
  • Physical education instruction board for the high school
  • The book – Radio 5th Grade – for elementary and middle school
  • Storytelling program for elementary and middle school
