The Crawford County Community Fund presented its 2013 grants on Tuesday, December 17, at the Crawford County Board meeting.  A reception, with the grant recipients, county board members, county staff, the Crawford County Advisory Board, and other invited guests followed and included refreshments, locally grown or produced.

According to Tarasa Lown, advisory board member and grant review committee chair, six applications with a combined total request of $8,500 were reviewed.  Lown noted, “We were impressed by the creativity and the detail provided in the grant applications.  Our discussion of the requests included a review of the scope, need, impact, and track record of the applicant organizations, all with a focus on economic development impact.”

Eric Frydenlund, chair of the Crawford County Community Fund (CCCF) advisory board presented the grants.  In his remarks he noted, “This is the fifth year that the Crawford County Community Fund has awarded grants.  With today’s awards, organizations within our county have received a combined total of $14,650.  These monies are available due to the establishment of our Fund in 2008 and through the generous support of our donors.  The Advisory Board is confident that these grants, along with the additional $14,000+ awarded for flood recovery, have had and will continue to have a positive impact on the economic health of our county.”

The 2013 CCCF grants:

•$1,000 to the Village Stewards, Village of Gays Mills,  for park improvements on Main Street

•$1,000 to Reality Check, a financial literacy program organized by a consortium of eight schools districts in Crawford County and adjacent communities and administered by the Wauzeka-Stueben School

•$1,000 to the Prairie du Chien Memorial Library,  for completion of the planning phase for a renovated/expanded/new library

•$600 to the City of Prairie du Chien, in support of development of the Skate Board Park

Karen Sjoberg, in accepting the grant for The Reality Check shared, “The $1,000 grant that The Reality Check received from the Crawford County Community Fund is a tremendous boost to our fund-raising efforts for the spring 2014 event. A grant of this significance will help our committee continue to expand The Reality Check. Over 330 high school seniors will benefit from this generous donation. The Reality Check Committee is grateful not only for the financial support from the Crawford County Community Fund, but also for the continued volunteer support and expertise that several of its members bring the day of The Reality Check.”
