CCCF Announces 2014 Sponsors of Crawford Markets Care Program

Sharon Murphy, chair of the Crawford County Community Fund, announced today that seven organizations have contributed monies for the continuation of the Crawford Markets Care Program.

Murphy noted, “We are pleased that past sponsors – Couleecap, Mayo Clinic Health System, Gundersen Health System, the Gays Mills Lions Club and the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital – have committed to the 2014 Markets Care Program.  We are excited to announce new sponsors including the George Family Charitable Foundation and 3M-Prairie du Chien.  With these new sponsors and increased donations from past sponsors, our program has grown by 30 percent for this 2014 season.”

The donations made by the Crawford Markets Care sponsors fund a coupon program available to users of the Crawford County food pantries.  The clients of these pantries may receive $5 coupons that can be used to purchase fresh produce, canned foods, and baked items at the Crawford County Farmers Markets in Prairie du Chien, Gays Mills and Ferryville.

The Crawford County Community Fund initiated the Crawford Markets Care program in 2009.  The program benefits both local vendors and clients of Crawford County food pantries.  Over the past 5 years, there have been over 2200 coupons redeemed translating to over $11,000 worth of fresh produce purchased by coupon users from local vendors.  This program is strongly endorsed by the pantry managers and the market managers.  Additionally, the UW-Extension office in Crawford County provides administrative support.

Donations for the Crawford Markets Care Program are welcome and should be sent to Crawford Markets Care, PO Box 13, Seneca WI 54654.
